WHY E-WASTE ART?

E-waste art is representative of one of the major toxic pollution issues that Pure Earth addresses. Frequently, informal industries, including the recycling of e-waste, provide desperately needed income for families, yet involve handling toxic materials that cause disease and even death.

In Agbogbloshie, Ghana, Pure Earth helped create a small e-waste recycling center filled with mechanized equipment to strip copper from the plastic wire coating. Workers now have an option to the poisonous process of burning wires, and receive a higher re-sale price for cleaner metals. This art is representative of this inspiring initiative.
